Vimeo goes 360°

News and updates from the web, SEO, Social, ZEFO's Posts
Hey guys, We started a whole new week! Last week we had quite a few subjects to talk about, from the merging of Google Site Search with the Custom Search Engine, to OpenGraph metatags on social and their effect on overall SEO in the long run and finished with the new Google update, now called “The Fred Update”, after Gary Illyes’s fish, Fred. Two weeks ago we also talked about Youtube coming to the TV, a way to combat cable television and a direct competitor - DirecTV. Today we are going to discuss Vimeo’s declaration of war on both Facebook as well as Youtube - by offering 360° videos on the platform. This doesn’t come to us as a surprise, as 360° is the future of video as well as…

OpenGraph meta tags and SEO

SEO, Social, ZEFO's Posts
Hey guys, We have reached the middle of the week, with St. Patrick’s just around the corner, so if you deal with the alcohol industry or brand bars for a living - now’s the time to put some more effort into it. A question arose the other day about OpenGraph for social media and how it affects SEO. Most webmasters were skeptical, saying that it doesn’t affect SEO per se but the sudden boost in traffic could definitely benefit the site in the long run. What many marketers fail to understand is that you can tweak your site endlessly for conversion, but you can also do that with the power of social. Social media is shown in search results all the time; Qwant for example shows these in search criteria.…

So long, Google Site Search

SEO, Social, ZEFO's Posts
Hey guys, A new week, and new energies :-) Over the course of the weekend, we spoke about Youtube’s latest transition to TV, and how it may affect televised advertising. Now, Google has decided to discontinue a product in their arsenal: Google Site Search (GSS). For those of you who weren’t familiar with the product, GSS was a way to apply the Google search engine to one’s own site, thus providing a way for web publishers to allow their clients to explore the site more efficiently by grouping a few websites in the search, give it the Google branding feel, specify and prioritize certain pages and more. As of April 1, Google will be transitioning to its new Custom Search Engine, or CSE. The new engine will differ from GSS:…

The return of the Emoji

News and updates from the web, SEM & PPC, SEO, Social, ZEFO's Posts
Hey guys, Back in 2015, Emojis had dropped out of fashion and kicked off Google search results in terms of desktop SEO. But Google has recently decided to put them back on. The reason? Some say it’s a bug. We wouldn’t be surprised, as last Wednesday we talked about Google releasing outdated warnings about Wordpress and Joomla sites, which made developers shake in their pants. Google did raise a couple of red flags there, with old Google Index caches surfacing all of a sudden, which sent hundreds of developers to check that their sites haven’t been affected with mass defacements. But, what if it’s not a bug? What if Google is trying something out? Could it be because of social media? Social media do possess more and more of a…

What’s behind Hootsuite’s acquisition of AdEspresso?

News and updates from the web, SEM & PPC, Social, ZEFO's Posts
Hey guys, It’s only a week till Valentine’s, so we hope you have all your creatives up and running to get your e-Commerce endeavors for 2017 up and running :-) We don’t know if you’ve heard, but Hootsuite, which offers a great way of automating your posting on social media as well as cross promotion, has acquired AdEspresso for an undisclosed amount of money. (Courtesy of TechCrunch) Why is this extraordinary? Since now Hootsuite has entered the self-serve game and would offer exclusive packages in terms of paid content. This is their way of combating both Adwords as well as Facebook Ads, in a market that is worth over $33 Billion. How would they achieve that? AdEspresso is a platform for advertising on both Facebook as well as Instagram, A-B…

What do users want?

Hey guys, TGIF! So, this past week we have told you about the great meetup we had on Sunday, how the importing of Adwords campaigns to Bing could work if tweaked accordingly and naturally if we should or shouldn’t use scripts to find out if our website has been crawled entirely. What about our exposure, though? We now know that Google (as well as other search engines) reward us for having good content with being ranked higher. But what is behind good content? We could write the best damn content on the planet and hardly find one person to read it. What we should do, is create SEO personas - ask these important questions: Who is my client? Where does one live? What does that person desire? Once we have…

Great (fire) wall of China!

News and updates from the web, SEM & PPC, SEO, Social
Hey guys, TGIF! But before we embark on the weekend, we do need to share some troubling news with you. Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) are a great tool for both marketers as well as savvy users: they allow us to get better prices based on virtual location instead of our real physical location, they allow us to stream content otherwise unavailable for us (like Netflix outside of selected countries) and allow us to even enter websites that are were not accessible for us, like many kinds of Chinese websites, beyond the “Great Firewall”. As a move of censorship by the Chinese government, it is now illegal to use VPNs and other “unauthorized means of communications” and as a result, the Chinese government has instated countermeasures that slow down some VPNs…

Mid roll killed the Youtube stars

SEM & PPC, Social
Guest post by AJ Segal of Appenue Facebook has decided to take on Google’s Youtube head-to-head. Some marketers rejoice, others are concerned (especially the ones that make money off it), but the ones that should be most concerned are Youtube personalities. A couple of months ago, Twitter has decided to shut down Vine. Why? Twitter wasn’t seeing the revenue it hoped to see through the acquisition of Vine back in 2012, Twitter thought it could combat Youtube and other services by doing so - it was wrong. Vine was strong, don’t get me wrong but not even remotely as strong as Youtube. Youtube had more following and just didn’t need people to download an app so they could record themselves doing stuff. Yes, I know - what about Snapchat? Snapchat…

How the mighty (desktop) has fallen

SEO, Social
Hey peeps, 2016 is almost over and with it we had a few changes to the way we perceive SEO and SEM as a whole. The Google Contributor is dying off as Google decides that it is imperative to continue running ads for revenue (either via Adwords or via Adsense, depends on being the advertiser or the publisher) and most websites opting for native ads or a monthly subscription to discontinue showing ads to users. Desktop’s last stand In the last two years or so, more and more users have opted for mobile for their searches, over 50% according to most sources. [caption id="attachment_216" align="aligncenter" width="936"] courtesy of smartinsights.com[/caption] But, even though most searches are conducted on mobile, people still use desktop and laptops to read loads of information. There…

Be on Mobile for Christmas!

SEM & PPC, SEO, Social, ZEFO's Posts
Many eCommerce marketers ask each year what they should do, how should they approach their clients, how would they get more sales going and where they should focus their efforts. We are sure you read the latest stats from last November,  stating that mobile devices accounted for over a third of all sales done on Black Friday. The figures were overwhelming, with Black Friday sales mounting at a whopping $5 Billion turnover ($5.27 Billion to be exact), with over $1.2 Billion spent on mobile devices. These figures are $3.34 Billion on Black Friday and $1.93 Billion spent on Thanksgiving - we are sure eBay, Amazon and even Aliexpress were really thankful for this prosperous bounty. These figures are so extraordinary, that the smart marketer should turn one’s focus to mobile…
