Why is Google warning us only now?

News and updates from the web, SEO, ZEFO's Posts
Hey guys, It’s a known fact that Google is a market leader, producing only the best innovations to hit the market, setting the tone for indexing, dominating the markets in terms of search and more. But what happens when even such a giant sends outdated warnings? This has happened a week ago, with Wordpress and Joomla users receiving warnings that their software is outdated, when new updates by Wordpress and Joomla had already hit the markets months before. The tags that were generated also seemed outdated, based on the Google Index’s old cache that the tags originated from, which raised a major concern around the Wordpress and Joomla communities. The first question that arose by the community was “why are we only knowing this now?” which sent hundreds of programmers…

Google dukes it out with the Bushido code

News and updates from the web, SEO, ZEFO's Posts
Hey guys, We are certain you all remember old Kurosawa movies from the 50s and 60s, where Samurais obeyed the bidding of their master, and committed seppuku (known to most Westerners as “hara-kiri”) if they failed their master which was a great dishonor, similar to Romans or Greek falling on their swords to avoid exile or execution, but not for the same reasons naturally. Although the Samurai period is over, with the last Samurais committing mass suicides after the Japanese Surrender in World War II, the honor code in Japanese society (Bushido) lives on and so is the committing of suicide when one has dishonored one’s family or clan; prevalent among students of all ages who fail to produce results expected by their parents. This raised huge concern among Google…

Hey guys, Valentine’s Day is over, and we have to get out of the comfort of our beds back to reality. TGIF! We are sure you remember Sci-Fi movies from the 60s onwards, where everything is monitored and machines were made to look like humans (something we see returning in new shows like Westworld, based on the popular 70s movie with Yul Brynner), act like humans and for our immediate purposes: pass as humans. This is something that is happening in content as well. New services that produce instant content for websites have emerged like mushrooms, growing steadily, learning search engine algorithms, learning the nooks, the cracks and the crevices, to produce high quality, engaging content. Services such as Articoolo, that specialize in using machine learning to produce engaging content…

Why did the chicken cross the road?

SEM & PPC, SEO, ZEFO's Posts
Hey guys, Happy Valentine’s Day! We hope your SEO endeavors were fruitful, and would love it if you can write in the comments below what you did this year that you didn’t do the previous year, and what your plans are for Q2 2017! With more and more competitors in the market, Google has become more and more dynamic; it has taken different methods from discovery platforms such as Taboola or Outbrain, search results offering similarities like Facebook or Twitter when you like or follow a page and more. A couple of months back, Google rolled out a “people also ask” features, like in this example: So as you can see, we asked why the chicken crossed the road and we received three results of similar questions or similar riddles.…

What’s behind Hootsuite’s acquisition of AdEspresso?

News and updates from the web, SEM & PPC, Social, ZEFO's Posts
Hey guys, It’s only a week till Valentine’s, so we hope you have all your creatives up and running to get your e-Commerce endeavors for 2017 up and running :-) We don’t know if you’ve heard, but Hootsuite, which offers a great way of automating your posting on social media as well as cross promotion, has acquired AdEspresso for an undisclosed amount of money. (Courtesy of TechCrunch) Why is this extraordinary? Since now Hootsuite has entered the self-serve game and would offer exclusive packages in terms of paid content. This is their way of combating both Adwords as well as Facebook Ads, in a market that is worth over $33 Billion. How would they achieve that? AdEspresso is a platform for advertising on both Facebook as well as Instagram, A-B…

Life’s a rollercoaster (or is it a carousel?)

News and updates from the web, SEO, ZEFO's Posts
Hey guys, As Valentine’s Day approaches us, we see more and more ways for Google (and other search engines) to lure us to use their engine over others. Bing has recently started offering dynamic ads to enhance the way we as marketers as well as our audience, perceive adverts online. It works wonderfully, but what about organic search? Google now offers a cool, carousel search to try and expand one’s search when searching a particular term to accommodate for related terms. For example, we wrote “baby clothes”. This carousel is a nice one, but not too smart yet, as you can see by the results: The only thing that was related (at least by looks alone) was the infant bodysuit. So the user interface isn’t amazing, but it’s a start.…

What do users want?

SEO, Social, ZEFO's Posts
Hey guys, TGIF! So, this past week we have told you about the great meetup we had on Sunday, how the importing of Adwords campaigns to Bing could work if tweaked accordingly and naturally if we should or shouldn’t use scripts to find out if our website has been crawled entirely. What about our exposure, though? We now know that Google (as well as other search engines) reward us for having good content with being ranked higher. But what is behind good content? We could write the best damn content on the planet and hardly find one person to read it. What we should do, is create SEO personas - ask these important questions: Who is my client? Where does one live? What does that person desire? Once we have…

Is it indexed or not?

News and updates from the web, SEO, ZEFO's Posts
Hey guys, Last Sunday night we had our cool meetup about ASO and SEO for mobile; thank you all for attending, you can see the photos and videos (in Hebrew) on our Facebook page. The turn up wasn’t bad, and people were engaged in the theme - which is always a good thing. The same goes to Google’s indexing of your pages and generally, your content. The cracking of this mystery always alludes webmasters and the use of Python scripts is against Google’s policy, which prompted this response from Gary Illyes: There are other alternatives based on Google sheets such as this one but with similar results that lack real confidence level, as well as prompting responses such as this one: Ok, but a webmaster should know what is indexed…

The Up, the Down and the Conspiracy Theor(ist)y

News and updates from the web, SEM & PPC, SEO, ZEFO's Posts
Hey guys, It’s Monday again, almost February, getting closer to Valentine’s and its e-commerce predictions :-) Over the course of the weekend or so, Bing has declared they had a cool feature which allows marketers to import Adwords campaigns to Bing Ads without needing to recalibrate everything in accordance with Adwords. That is super cool. Let’s talk about the upside, downside and the conspiracy theory, as we all know you guys love these :-)   Upside Being able to import an Adwords campaign to Bing is a breath of fresh air, as it allows marketers to maximize their resources and spend less time on optimizing in accordance with something that’s already running and works perfectly. Here is an example of automated importing of running campaigns to Bing: This automated importing…
